NYT’s Jodi Kantor: Stunning That Our Weinstein Report and Ronan Farrow’s Had ‘Almost No Overlap’

New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Meghan Twohey were behind that first big Harvey Weinstein exposé just over a week ago that broke open one of the biggest Hollywood scandals in history.

Kantor spoke to Stelter about how their view on this reporting “changed when we began to learn about more recent incidents,” and when Stelter brought up Roger Ailes‘ ouster from Fox News, Kantor said there’s certainly a “strong parallel to Ailes” in this Weinstein story.

And then, of course, just days after the Times report dropped, The New Yorker released Ronan Farrow‘s report on even more women coming forward, with some even alleging Weinstein raped them.

There’s the question of what happened internally at NBC News that led to Farrow reporting this for The New Yorker instead, and Kantor said too, “We had heard that he was doing work at NBC, and then it switched to being The New Yorker.”

“I congratulate him on his reporting,” she told Stelter. “And I also thought it was so significant that here in the last week, the New York Times has published thousands and thousands and thousands of detailed words about these allegations, the New Yorker has published thousands and thousands and thousands of detailed words about these allegations, and yet there’s been almost no overlap between our journalism.”

She added:

“The number of women who have been in both of our stories, the number of situations that we both reported on, is very small. I’m sorry to say this, in a way, but there appear to have been more than enough allegations to go around.”
